Flabalicious Fridays: My Story

This is MY STORY!!!

 

So I have had this post written for the last two weeks and I have been pushing it back from being posted because after reading it I realized that I am disclosing an very embarrassing situation and I realized that I am actually giving TRUE insight to my life.  While that was the premise and the plan behind these posts, it didn’t TRULY set in until I actually read this post.  So after weeks of debating, I have finally decided that I am going to swallow my pride and share my story.  So here it goes!

I’ve struggled with my weight my ENTIRE Life, I was always the chubby kid and while I was teased by kids in school, the fact that I was the smart kid and I was a cute kid my chubbiness was overlooked by some including myself.  I remember one day in grade school I got into an argument with a boy by the name of Cornelius who asked me why I was so fat.  Being the creative kid that I was, I came up with this far out story (that I now know is totally absurd) that my older brothers forced me eat a HUGE bowl of chili and ever since then I have been fat…lol.  When I said Far Out, I was so detailed with this story that I had the ENTIRE classroom in awe.  It was so detailed that I myself almost believed that this bowl of chili was the culprit for my chubbiness.   Determined to show that my story was indeed the truth, I went as far as to bring the culprit i.e. “said bowl”  to school the following day.  My intent was to show my classmates how huge the bowl was and how the bowl was responsible for the extra weight that I carried. Well needless to say when you are in 4th grade stories as absurd as that one will fly…and it did!

Quint’s Quick Tips: Let’s Talk Water

I know last week I said we were going to talk more about changes that you can make on a daily basis that will boost your weight loss potential, however I forgot to talk about a very important subject: Water Consumption.  So next week we will jump back to the changes you need to make as I want to address this topic.

The base rule for water consumption is 8 – 8 oz glasses per day and while that is a great baseline, it is just that a baseline rule.  Keep in mind that each individual and body type vary, so baseline rules don’t always apply across the board.  Here’s my suggestion: Drink half your body weight in water per day and if you exercise add an additional 8 ounces of water per 30 mins of exercise to your plan.  So if you weigh 200 lbs and exercise for an hour a day, you would want to consume 116 ounces of water per day.

Why is your water consumption important, well like everything else in this world…WATER makes the world go round.  Your body requires water to function and there are benefits that water provide to you.  The benefits of water are:

  • Helps flush your system and promotes weight loss
  • Replenishes and moisturizes your skin, water also increases your skins elasticity
  • Helps reduce the risk of your muscles and/or joints from cramping or spraining
  • Flushes your system to allow your organs to function properly, in doing this it eliminates fatigue
  • Improves your digestion, which helps breakdown your foods and reduces constipation

So here is this week’s challenge, keep tracking the changes we have discussed and keep using the My Fitness Pal – Plus make sure you are consuming the appropriate amounts of water for your body size. Next week we will jump back to the small daily changes we can make to help promote your weight loss!

Quint’s Quick Tips: Making Changes

Quint’s Quick Tips:  Making Changes

Last week we said “You are what you eat” and I challenged you to keep track of the things that you ate this week using the My Fitness Pal or a similar application on our smartphone or tablet.  This week we are going to talk about simple little changes you can make to help change your eating habits and to help you lose weight.  When I say these changes are simple, trust me they are extremely simple but can make a difference in how your body metabolizes and processes the food we eat.  I am going to give you 3 simple changes to implement this week.  Here they go:

  1. Add lemon to your water – Lemon helps to detoxify the liver and metabolizes fat which in turn speeds up your metabolism.
  2. Eat more often throughout the day – You should eat at least 6 times per day!  Yes I said 6, now I am not talking about HUGE meals, I am talking about implementing healthy snacks throughout the day to help satisfy your hunger and speed up your metabolism.  Eat healthy snacks such as almonds, greek yogurt, or low fat cheese.  Try to find snacks that are high in protein to feed your muscle and help keep you feeling full.
  3. Cut out the Soda and sugary drinks – These are unwanted calories and are full of sugar. If you have a hard time drinking plain water, jazz your water up with fresh fruit or crystal light.  Sugary Drinks can be detrimental to your dieting goals.  So kiss them goodbye!

So adding to your challenge, let’s make these simple changes and keep tracking via My Fitness Pal.  Next week we will add onto this list and add a little exercise to our new routines we are developing.  Plus stay tuned as we will be adding some healthy recipe options to this whole Flabalicious Friday series!  Until next time remember this Change is going to begin with you…ARE YOU READY?

Quint’s Quick Tips: You Are What You Eat

So you know the age old saying ‘YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!”  Well guess what there really is truth in that saying.  If you continue you to fill your body with unhealthy foods (i.e. Fast, greasy, fattening and cheap food) then no matter how much exercising you do, you will NEVER see the results you desire.  Start off by tracking what you eat using a downloadable application such as My Fitness Pal.  With this app you can see WHAT you eat throughout the day and if you need to modify your caloric, protein and fat intake.  In doing this you become more aware of what you are putting into your body.  Here’s my challenge to your this week:  Track your food for the next week and on next Friday I will give some suggestions of what type of foods you should be consuming.

Introducing Flabalicious Fridays…….

flabalicious flab2fab Welcome to Flabalicious Fridays!!  This is going to be a new blog series and it’s based upon my Journey from Flab2Fab.  Each week I will be checking in and giving you updates on my journey From Flab2Fab, which I am sure is going to be an interesting one.  I decided to document this journey on my blog for several reasons #1 TO HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE.  I have been trying to get rid of this weight for some time now and I felt that if I put myself on blast (lol) it would make me more accountable to keep going.  #2 Reason: I want something to look back at, this series is not only going to be my personal testament but it will serve as a journal documenting my ups and downs.  I don’t expect every week to be a great week, in fact I am scared of my reaction to the not so great weeks because I am my own toughest critic, but by documenting and sharing I may reach and touch someone who is going thru or has gone thru what I am experiencing. #3 Reason….I’m too damn cute to be this darn plush…lol.  It’s time to let it go, my goal is not to be super skinny as I have some curves that will NEVER go anywhere.  I just want to be a little more comfortable in my own skin.  What do I mean by that?  Well you will learn what I mean by that in next Friday’s post as that will explain to you what I have gone thru as a Plush Sized Diva that has made me want to make these changes in my life/lifestyle.
